A light brown tom silently padded through Eagleclan territory. He was not the type known for following all the rules thats mainly why he is now wandering the clans territory at night. Suddenly a overwhelming smell of Wolfclan flooded up his nose, the young apprentice realized he was at Stepping Stones the border of the two clans. Harepaw settled down in front of the moving water, he craned his head down to take a drink, the cool sensation running through his body. Coming back up he stared into Wolfclan territory, almost waiting for something to happen, but he stayed quiet just enjoying the darkness and the sparkle of the stars in the sky.

The territory was transformed at night. What had appeared just a normal puddle in the daylight now sparkled and reflected every twitching leaf. While your average kit might have been spooked by this, Patchedkit responded by making faces into the puddles, but then again, Patchedkit was not your avarage kit. She'd gotten out of camp easily, because everyone else was sleeping and not worrying about the mischievous antics of a kit who knew rules were meant to be broken. Just then, Patched kit spied the biggest puddle she'd ever seen, glittering in the moon light! A shrill squeal of delight escaped her as she bounded towards it! This puddle even had stones in it so you could see your reflection better. Her nose wrinkled at a funny smell but she didn't look up until she finished her face. Her eyes met those of a cat who she knew she didn't recognize, and didn't look particularly happy to see her.

A small cat appeared, and Harepaw didn't know what to do. The young cat didn't look dangerous, actually it looked more like a kit. Harepaw gracefully jumped on one of the stepping stones to get a closer look at the cat. "Hello? Who's there?" the apprentice asked curiously. Deep inside Harepaw knew he shouldn't be doing this, because if a warrior came by, he would be in big trouble. But Harepaw was built for fun and adventure so he couldn't pass up this.

Upon closer investigation, the face she was looking into looked more confused than angry. The tom didn't look much older than herself, and Patchedkit guessed he was an apprentice. "Oh hi! I'm Patchedkit. Who are you?" In Patchedkit's opinion anyone who sneaked out of camp in the middle of the night, and came to hang out at the everlasting puddle, was cool enough to be a candidate for a friend. Her eyes bright, she skipped onto the next steppingstone to get a closer look at the other cat.

"What do you two think you are doing?" Maplefur demanded. She sniffed the air "What's an Eagelclan apprentice doing here?" She hisssed. She had been on a solo hunting trip, and had scented Eagleclan and was concered about the borders.

Harepaw was about to speak when a warrior from Wolfclan appeared. He had seen this she-cat before at a gathering, it was Maplefur. "Uhh sorry...Maplefur, you know the warrior code..says something about helping kits" he meowed not really knowing exactly what he was talking about, but he listened enough from the elders to know some of the code. Frightened from getting caught the light brown tom leaped back onto to the ground of Eagleclan territory.

"Hey Maplefur! Are you chilling at the everlasting puddle too? This is like a party huh!" Patchedkit mewed excitedly. Maplefur didn't look happy to join the party, or at least that was what Patchedkit took her eyes flashing with anger to mean. "I don't know what he's doing here, Maplefur. I was going puddle jumping and I found the everlasting puddle, and I believe I've found a kindred spirit." Maplefur mewed, and seeing a glint of silver in the water, lost her balance and tumbled off the rock into the water yowling as the water soaked into her fur.

Maplefur sighed. "A kindred spirit" she chuckled to herself. "Patchedkit, you should get back to camp. Young kits aren't supposed to leave it until they are apprenticed" Maplefur ordered her. Maplefur picked up Patchedkit by the scruff and got her out of the water. "Now come on before any other warriors have noticed your gone and you get in deeper trouble" Mapelfur ordered.

"That's stupid! How am I supposed to be a decent warrior if all I do for 6 months is lounge around in the nursery! This is fun! Please let me stay!" Patchedkit shivered and her soaking wet fur stood up on her lithe frame. "Nobody ever notices that I'm gone. I bet the queens will be happy I'm out of their fur." Patchedkit's eyes grew watery with fake tears, hoping to manipulate Maplefur into letting her stay at the everlasting puddle. "I bet the clan will think that they are better off without me." An over exaggerated sniffle followed this convincing piece of acting. Patchedkit looked into Maplefur's eyes, hoping sorrow replaced the sense of fun she truly was feeling.

"Uh-huh, nice try little one" Maplefur meowed gently. "There will be plenty of time for fun. How about I take you out around the territory a little tomorrow? I'll show you more than most kits get to see before they're apprenticed. But, you have to go back now" Maplefur offered. She hoped this would convince the young kit to come back before she got into deeper trouble.

Patchedkit considered. If she stayed, she's get in trouble, and everyone would be watching out for her, but if she went with Maplefur, she'd kept this a secret, and still be able to sneak out, still with the added benefit of exploration with the she cat. "I suppose I'll come back with you, if you're sure you wish to burden he clan with me." Sniffling again, as not to let down the sad depressed act. The little tortoiseshell flashed a grin at the Eagleclan apprentice, mouthing the words, see you soon! behind the warriors back, before putting on a down trodden expression, and turning to Maplefur.
